Reflections of Life
Stella Louise Mitchell, was born on September 16, 1951 in Santa Monica, California.
She received her education from Sunset Elementary, Edison Jr. High, and Manual Arts High School. Later attending Santa Monica City and U.C.L.A. College. Stella attended Greater Morning Star under the pastorial leadership of Pastor Robertson, where she was baptized at an early age.
She would meet Dana Mitchell in the early 60’s, later they would unite in Holy Matrimony on October 19, 1968. They would have three (3) beautiful sons; Tomeeko DeShon, Markcole, and Dana Andrew, II.
Later, Stella and her family would move to the Dallas area with her job Lyons Moving & Storage Company.
The family would join Keller Springs Church under the pastorial leadership of Pastor Willie Jacobs.
In the 80’s she started working with BeautiControl where she would stay for 15 years, moving on to Wal*Mart in 2001 where she worked as a Dept. Manager in the infants department, where she worked up until her illness.
On May 29, 2008 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Stella was a prayer warrior and fought a good fight until the very end. On February 23, 2009 with her family and friends surrounding her with all the love they had to give, she was called home to eternal peace with our Heavenly Father at 12:44 a.m. Stella was loved by many and will be missed by us all, We love you and you were truly “God’s Child.”
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Willie Mae Haskins; grandfather, Elmo Haskins; sister, Linda Faye Smith and brother John Smith.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband of 40 years, Dana A. Mitchell; three (3) sons, Tomeeko (Wendy), Mark (Tiffany), and Dana II; two (2) god daughters, Joshaia and NiNi; six (6) grandchildren, Tomeeko II, Jaren, Aliyah, Kaelyn, LaMont II, and Tony II; mother, Rether Sloan; father, Gilbert Sloan; three (3) sisters, Betty (Wayne), Punkin, and Marie (Joe); three (3) brothers, George, Anderson, and Andre’ (Sharilyn); four (4) sister-in-laws, Viola, Elaine, Penny, and LaShon; five (5) brother-in-laws, Dwayne (Teresa), Ronald, Craig, Jeffery, and James “Caveman;” and a host of family and friends.
